Pulling Up To The Traffic Lights
Set off for a drive into the country over the weekend, about a two hour trip. Now I know you’ve got to expect some idiots on the road but I sort of expected to get more than a few minutes down the road before someone shat me!
The traffic lights up ahead turned red, they would have been 150 metres away, the traffic was reasonably heavy but moved up to the lights quickly, except for the idiot in front of me. Because the lights had turned red, once the traffic started to move again this idiot crept along at about 10 kph.
And OK, I know if the lights are red I was not going to be going anywhere much further than 150 metres but it shits me when drvers do this. I have a manual car, maybe that’s part of the problem too, it’s difficult to go that slow in a manual car, you end up having to ride the clutch.
So I pull out a little to see if there’s anyone in front of the idiot in front of me, and of course there’s not, so do I zip out and zip in front of them. If I do and they speed up a little I will not manage to get in front of them. Gap is closing but ever so slowly, can I do it? No, just suck it up and be patient.
Really though, if there’s a decent gap between you and the traffic lights or the cars ahead stopped at the lights, then move up at a decent speed and stop to wait for them to change, don’t creep along, it’s really annoying.
And you drivers that stop a few car lengths away from the car in front of you until me or someone else has stopped behind you and then you creep forward, STOP IT! I know you’re doing it because you’re worried about some idiot behind you, or me, ploughing into you/us and the back of you car is smashed in. I know it’s happened to me twice in my driving life. But it does not happen often and your creep creep creep ahead trying to leave space just gives the rest of us behind you the shits, maybe even enough to drive into the back of your car for giving us the shits trying to avoid just such a situation!
