Yeah, family is difficult. I have never had a problem but my Dad never sees one of his brothers because they had a falling out over a lawn mower 40 or 50 years ago and the brother's wife seems to be very unpleasant, I've never really met her, and she is in the way of them seeing each other despite their ripe ages. Maybe she'll die and they can have a reunion. Hopefully you can visit your grandkids without your wife, I know it's unfair but would be good for you to do that and perhaps you can spend some time with your daughter while you're there and maybe she can come around a bit regarding your wife, I hope so.

It's the parents responsibility to teach their children, but, saying that, I realise you can lead a horse to water, but, you can't make him drink.

I think a lot of the Baby Boomers are also at fault here and it's not just the kids. My brother's kids can't be bothered to phone their grandparents (my mum & dad) for birthdays or christmas... Mum religiously sends all of them Birthday & Christmas presents. That's my brother and his wife's fault as she doesn't like my mum. My youngest daughter is a real gem, even though she is going thru that difficult period in life (she's 12). She's kind and thoughtful and sends emails and SMS her grandmother.

My eldest daughter, on the other hand, has banned me from seeing my grandkids because she doesn't like my current wife (current wife is not her mother)....

Yep Roen, fair comment! I guess that's what I did. I just think it's a shame we don't see more courtesy especially from younger people these days.

Good on you for doing what you want to do. Equality gives him the ability to do what he wants to do without feeling obliged to do what others want him to do - why don't you stop being such a martyr and be happy in your own self importance for offering your seat, and stop trying and control everyone around you? He paid the same fare, he has the same rights. Why wait to see if he offered the seat first - what's wrong with you standing up if that's what you wanted to do? Are you that much 'better' than him? your legs work just as well at '10 to 20 years' older and it will give you a great feeling of community that you so desire. I question who the 'inconsiderate' one really is.
